The Lifeless Lake Monster

June 2013: The last remaining photograph of Thomas, Edwin, and Donald.

Although they may no longer look it, these three gentlemen had lived perhaps the most adventurous lives anyone had ever seen. Back in 1984 Thomas (found left) and Edwin (center) had begun their first year of university studying environmental science. Their introductory marine life professor Dr. Donald MacGregor (found here on the right) presented to the class an image he recently took of what appeared to be a large figure emerging from the dark waters of Lifeless Lake.

The very idea in theory was baffling because as the name suggests, the lake has never had life within it. Nearly eighty years ago an oil refinery began operation on the other side of the lake and had an accidental spill that released tremendous amounts of toxic oil into the water. The toxins spread through the waters and made it permanently uninhabitable for any marine life. Thus it acquired the name Lifeless Lake.

After the class Thomas and Edwin had approached Dr. MacGregor for more information, where he offered them the opportunity to join him in looking for it again on the weekend. The young men eagerly accepted, and joined him that Sunday. With nothing more than a few pairs of binoculars and some take-out Chinese food in a red bag, the three spent the day without any findings. Although unsuccessful that day, the three developed a sort of tradition where in which they would spend all day and night every Sunday on the lookout. Over some time the motivation began to dwindell in lieu of no results, and after Thomas and Edwin graduated in 1988 the tradition ended.

In June of 2013 it had been reported in the news that a large figure had been spotted moving around the surface of Lifeless Lake, dubbed as the Lifeless Lake Monster. Dr. MacGregor had contacted Thomas and Edwin to have one last try at searching for the creature. It took a great deal of Edwin convincing the reluctant and unimpressed Thomas, but they all reunited one last time with their Chinese food and a pair of binoculars, ready for adventure.

This photo is the all that remains of the three missing gentlemen, and the details as to what happened on that day are unknown. Some believe they went down to the lakeside and fell in the toxic water, others believe they had been dragged in by something else.
